6:38p	Bubba Ho-Tep Man, I'm seeing a lot of movies this weekend! Bubba Ho-Tep is great fun... it manages to be several movies at once. Ostensibly a horror film, but with a weird Joe Lansdale spin on it. (I've enjoyed some of his short fiction and his novel The Magic Wagon.) The idea of Elvis and JFK in an East Texas rest home fighting ancient evil is absurd and funny. Usually I don't enjoy Elvis stories, but Bruce Campbell really makes you believe, and there are some really touching melancholy moments as Elvis reflects back on his life and his disappointments, and some really funny dialog. You really care about these two old guys, and accept the absurdity and go with it. Some good haunting music too. — Ho, mi vidas multajn filmojn dum ĉi tiu semajnfino! Bubba Ho-Tep bonegas... ĝi estas kelkaj filmoj samtempe. Ŝajne horora filmo, sed kun la stranga tuŝo de Joe Lansdale. (Mi ĝuis iujn liajn mallongajn rakontojn kaj lian romanon La Magia Ĉaro.) La ideo de Elvis Presley kaj prezidento John F Kennedy en Teksasa maljunulejo, batalanta pramalbonegon, estas absurda kaj amuza. Kutime mi ne ŝatas rakontojn kun Elvis, sed Bruce Campbell igas vin kredi ja, kaj estas kelkaj momentoj emociaj melankoliaj kiam Elvis memoras sian vivon kaj desapontojn, kaj ankaŭ iom da amuzega dialogo. 8:19p	controversial coup in the American Go Association I see that Alfred blogged about the recent American Go Association controversy, wherein president Chris Kirschner was ousted by the board in a rather murky chain of events; the idea of writing about this hadn't even occurred to me, perhaps a sign of how I'm not as focused on go lately (for which I naturally blame my Esperanto obsession). The AGA upper echelons have always seemed rather distant and mysterious to me anyway. I know that there seems to be a history of in-fighting and personality conflicts and power struggles, which is kind of silly, given that the organization exists simply to nurture and grow the culture of the wonderful game of go, and this sort of political conflict is antithetical to the spirit and culture of go as I experience it. Perhaps with more public visibility, the players involved in this controversy might have behaved better. ( lots of information and thoughts about AGA politics ) (Komentoj: 1 | Komentu)
