9:10a	Bachmann's shameless lying about having accused Obama of being "anti-American" Rep. Michelle Bachmann simply lies and backpedals: "I'm not saying that his views are anti-American. That was a misreading of what I said." I really wonder how dishonest or deluded she is, given that only days ago she was filmed saying stuff like the following: "Absolutely I'm very concerned that he may have anti-American views." "I think the people that Barack Obama has been associating with are anti-American by and large." "Most Americans, Chris, are wild about America, and they're very concerned to have a president who doesn't share those values." This anti-Obama campaign really treats Americans like they are amnesiac idiots who will believe whatever ridiculous smears the Republicans say. (In reality, only some Americans seem to be that way... e.g. the conspiracy theorists who still think Obama is a sleeper cell Islamic terrorist or whatever.) It's pathetic that McCain explicitly chose to campaign this way, but gratifying that it seems to be backfiring. 9:42a	Palin's "real America" is much whiter Palin put her foot in her mouth recently asserting that the places she was campaigning in are the "real" America, as opposed to, e.g., northern Virginia not being the "real" Virginia (as campaign advisor Nancy Pfotenhauer said). The usual questioning of the patriotism of people who aren't far right. So here's a statistical analysis of the places Palin praises that shows rather clearly that for Palin, "real" America is much whiter: http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/10/real-america-looks-different-to-palin.html Not very surprising, when explicit racists and even KKK members are part of their base, and the campaign's goal is to emphasize the otherness of Obama. Also Jake Tapper points out that in some of these less American places (the Pentagon in northern Virginia, New York City) a lot of Americans were killed on 9/11.
