International football matches have been banned at high altitudes. I don't care about that, but I am amused by the hyperbole of some of the people in this article.

Bolivian President Evo Morales said, "Without sport - without football - there cannot be South American unity."

Kleber Leite, vice president of the Brazilian club Flamengo, said the ruling was "a victory for humankind".

I would not have expected that rules about international football could jeopardize South American unity, or even humankind itself. But now I know better.


Internaciaj futbalaj matĉoj malpermisiĝis je altaj lokoj. Tio ne gravas al mi, sed amuzas min la troigaj reagoj de iuj homoj en la artikolo.

Bolivia prezidento Evo Morales diris, "Sen sporto - sen futbalo - ne povas esti sudamerika unueco."

Kleber Leite, vicprezidanto de la brazila klubo Flamengo, diris ke la malpermeso estis "venko por la homaro."

Mi ne atendintus ke reguloj pri internacia futbalo povus endanĝerigi sudamerikan unuecon, aŭ eĉ la homaron mem. Sed nun mi komprenas.

Considering that wars have been fought over football games in South America, I'm not sure I'm buying the argument that it's necessary for South American unity -- especially when Brazil seems to delighted by the decision.
