nowa karta pobytu
Dwa miesiące temu dałem dokumenty i pieniądze do biurokracji żeby dostać nową kartę pobytu. Dzisiaj wreszcie dostałem! Więc mieszkam jeszcze jeden rok w Polsce. Hura!

Antaŭ du monatoj mi donis dokumentojn kaj monon al la burokrataro por ricevi novan "karta pobytu" (t.e. "karto loĝada"). Hodiaŭ mi finfine ricevis ĝin! Do mi loĝos alian jaron en Polujo. Hura!

Two months ago I gave documents and money to the bureaucracy to get a new "karta pobytu" (i.e. residency card). Today I finally got it! So I'm living in Poland for another year. Woot!

What is the social/political climate like for legal aliens there? 'Cuz here in the States, if you ain't an 100% red-white-and-blue, flag-waving/saluting American, the natives tend to look at you like you're going to steal their job, sleep with their daughter, and drink the last beer! (>.<)

There is much bureaucracy for legal aliens, but I'm sure it's worse in the US. In terms of social climate, it is like most places: some immigrants are considered "bad" (from poorer countries) and some are considered "good" (from richer countries). I was lucky in the birth lottery and so as a native English speaker can find respectable work teaching English and do not suffer discrimination that e.g. Romani suffer, or Ukrainian manual laborers (I have the impression they are sort of the equivalent of Hispanic immigrants in the US in terms of being the implied or explicit target of anti-immigrant sentiment - but I'm not well-informed on the situation here).

Even though I have not assimilated in any significant sense (in particular since I still suck at understanding Polish speech), I don't feel looked down upon. Luckily I cannot be accused of stealing anyone's job since the locals can't work as native English speakers. And the only person whose daughter I'm sleeping with seems to like me fine. :)
