A midsummer night's dream
We saw a free student production of Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream" in a nice shady outdoor courtyard this afternoon. I think this was the first time I saw an English language play in Poland. The actors were from Poland, England, Canada, Turkey, so there were quite a variety of accents. They abridged the play to only cover the story of the four lovers, leaving out the subplots of Titania falling in love and the traveling actors who perform Pyramus and Thisbe. As a result, the play only lasted an hour with no pause, and that was quite enjoyable and different from the many other productions I've seen of this.

I've seen performances of all Shakespeare plays, but Midsummer Nights Dream is the most-seen play on my list. Several of those with you.

Remember the high school and elementary kid version that had the odd choreography of the kids turning around, grabbing their heels and waggling their butts in the audience's face? I think it was supposed to show the endearing rude humor of the fairies. But it seemed kinda skeevy... Like that butt-obsession they say Disney had.

No, it was in some alternate, not great, theater. Like a school theater or the Dougherty Arts Center or Concordia or something. The little boy (must've been 12 or so) who played Oberon was like a young Liberace! He stole the show for me, and I imagine he did grow up to be king of the fairies. He was just in love with acting too, you could tell.
