dwa dni w paryżu
two days in paris
is funny and sad about
languages and love

tagpar' en pariz'
amuzas kaj tristas pri
lingvoj kaj amo

dwa dni w paryżu
są języki i miłość
śmiesznie i smutno

I loved Julie Delpy in an earlier film about a couple in Paris for a short time. Plus in this new film the boyfriend continually and humorously hears fast conversations in a language he doesn't know, so I felt myself in a familiar situation!

It's really delayed getting to Poland. Or did you watch it on a DVD? Here's what I said:

Then J4 called since she was coming to N.Austin for a movie. I rendezvous'd with her -- seeing most of TWO DAYS IN PARIS. A very indie film that Julie Delphy wrote, directed, starred in, did the musical score and wrote a song for. Impressive of her! Not a wonderful movie, but interesting. Maybe if I was more of an Adam Goldberg fan...? The issues Delphy's character had with him is why he's unappealing to me -- he seems sour, bad tempered, non-involved, unhandsome... That's also a movie you don't want to watch if you're nervous about traveling in foreign countries with a foreign language. I found Paris stressful the one time I went, but I spoke some French, made the effort, and the people there were almost all really sweet to me. Poor Goldberg keeps getting accosted as "an Arab! an Arab!"

No it's only just shown up in theaters here in the past few weeks.

Adam Goldberg's character was unlikeable in the beginning (for reasons you mention), and then Julie Delpy's character became more unlikeable (deceitful, thoughtless, anger management problems), we thought. Given both of their flaws, I guess it's a tribute to the sympathetic acting and writing that I liked the characters as much as I did. His character made me think of a younger more macho/handsome version of Woody Allen, so I can see why you didn't like him. :)

Adam Goldberg seemed familiar to me, but I couldn't think of where I'd seen him before. I see now that he was in some movies I've seen (Saving Private Ryan, A Beautiful Mind, etc... small roles?) but I don't remember him from them. Also, rather meta, he had an uncredited appearance in Before Sunrise! (Man sleeping on train.)

For me, the stuff about not understanding the local language was great and often quite funny. I loved the family dinner when the family all started arguing very fast, and he still thought they were talking about the duck, so he desperately said "I'm eating it, I'm eating it!" which had nothing to do with what they were talking about.
