We're in Netherlands! Starting on Saturday we'll be in Rotterdam for the Universala Kongreso de Esperanto (the largest Eo event each year, with a couple thousand people from 50 or 60 countries), but now we are couchsurfing in Utrecht. I'm really impressed by the bike culture here, with bike lanes everywhere and a continual flow of quiet nonpolluting bikes instead of the usual traffic jams in many cities. Very nice! Other differences: stores close at 5pm or 6pm, so the city is surprisingly deserted in the evening. Many canals, with a downtown that's like a nicer version of San Antonio's riverwalk, but not created just for tourists. Webpages with forms for personal data have a place for the prefix of the family name (e.g. "van" in "van Gogh"). :) Today we're exploring Amsterdam.
