nekutime stranga spamaĵo "revoke russian citizenship"
I just got an unusually odd email sent to an address at my domain russcon.org:
To whom it may concern:
I have dual citizenship- Russian and the US. Would you be so kind as to explain to me the process of revoking Russian citizenship.
Thank you very much.
Marina K-----, M.D.

(There actually is a person with this name who's an M.D., I found on the web...)

Koran dankon.
Marina K-----, M.D.

(Efektive ekzistas tia homo tiel nomata kiu estas kuracisto (M.D.), mi trovis rete...)

If more people knew you had this power, you might be able to exert considerable international influence!

RussCon = RUSSian CONnection

Probably covering all bases that might possibly know of how to deal with the Russian government.

So all those years I called you "Russell" I was just disambiguating your country status.

You Russky you.

That is odd. I wasn't aware that the US generally allowed dual citizenship, much less dual citizenship with Russia.

But supposing that is possible, when I googled for "russcon", Google also suggested I might be interested in "ruscon". That turns up ruscon.org, which is the Russian Consulate.

Perhaps you can hijack their domain and start charging all sorts of fees for bogus official services, like cancelling their citizenship.

The US doesn't allow dual citizenship, but they can't prevent you from getting it. If you're smart, you'll do it when you can so it can give you options later (when America has pissed off some country that limits travel of American citizens).

I totally screwed up by not getting dual Canadian citizenship, but the extension for getting that ran out. (My mom was Canadian when I was born, in Texas.)

My research about it in recent years indicates that the old US law forbidding dual citizenship has been found ridiculous by various judges and is now generally ignored. Plenty of US citizens get second citizenships in various countries, e.g. by having ancestors in other countries which have laws permitting one to acquire citizenship in such cases, or by long term residency, or by marriage to a citizen, etc.

Aha, good spotting. It sounds plausible that the person wrote an extra "s" and it was a real email. I will reply and let her know.
