Visitor 2
My old cow-orker Tony from Austin (who now lives in Oslo) visited Wrocław on business, so we got to hang out Wednesday evening for coffee and today, taking a walk to Ostrów Tumski and the botanical garden (despite the rain). It was great to chat with him again, like old times. He and Anna and I enjoyed the long conversation about life, the universe, and everything. It was weird to realize he's only the 2nd person from my old US life to visit us in Wrocław. A disadvantage of moving far away!

Mia malnova labora kolego Tony de Aŭstino (kiu nun loĝas en Oslo) vizitis Vroclavon pro laboro, do ni povis kafumi kune merkrede vespere kaj hodiaŭ, piedirante al Ostrów Tumski kaj la botanika ĝardeno (spite pluvon). Estis bonege babili kun li denove, kiel malnovaj tempoj. Li kaj Anna kaj mi ĝuis longan konversaciadon pri vivo, la universo, kaj ĉio. Estis strange konstati ke li estas nur la 2a homo de mia malnova usona vivo kiu vizitis nin en Vroclavo. Jen malavantaĝo translokiĝi for!

That's great that you got to visit with an old Austin friend! It is a shame that only two folks from your old life have been able to visit though. I suppose that's not a huge surprise though, as I doubt most would choose to visit Poland if they do visit Europe. Perhaps that's an unwise choice, as I'm sure Poland is a very interesting country with a lot to offer, but it's difficult to choose Poland over the usual touristy places.

So what did your friend think of Poland?

(Btw: I'm tentatively planning a trip to Europe with a friend for this time next year. It will likely be Italy, and possibly Germany or France too, but I haven't been overseas in FOREVER, so I'm already getting really excited...cross your fingers that I can find the time and money to pull it off! : )

Indeed, Poland is not tops on most people's tourism list. Tony seemed to enjoy his visit here, though! The weather was unseasonably cold, but he likes cold. He also mentioned that there is less litter on the ground in Wrocław than in Oslo. That surprised me as (for no particular reason), I imagined Oslo as a very clean city, I don't know why. :)

His work group got to do an excursion to a castle and even some old Nazi WW2 tunnels and interesting strange historical stuff.

Who was Tony, I mean which job?

BTW, as you know I tried to get a RussCon field trip to Berlin and Wroclaw for the past year, but it hasn't worked out. At least you had Marty and Mark last fall for Essen...

He was in QA at UD; I'm not sure if you ever met him!

Yep! Poland seems to be a tough sell. Thanks for trying! :)
